Join us in celebrating the achievements of our 2022-2023 Jewish Arts Mentorship (J.A.M.) Cohort!
A chance to meet this year's handpicked group of rising theatre-makers: Britt Dash, Alex Shiri, Noah Singer, and Ilana Zackon. Come hear about what they've been working on over the course of the program and preview segments of their new work.
Past J.A.M. fellows have gone on to produce full productions at Montreal Fringe, the MAI, perform in festivals in Canada and the UK, and debut on the Segal stage. This fifth annual showcase is an exciting opportunity to see creative work in its early stages and follow talented artists doing innovative work in all facets of the theatre world.
We invite you to stay and enjoy some Sunday afternoon refreshments with us in the ArtLoungefollowing the presentation!

Britt Dash
Britt is a multidisciplinary artist living in Montreal. Drawing from her background in writing and performing, Britt is inspired by true life storytelling, puppetry, and improvisational comedy. Her project explores themes such as fitting in within a small community, indecision, and identity.
Alex Shiri
BIG MAZEL is a coming-of-age comedy feature that follows a group of cousins in their late teens to early 20s over the course of a Bar Mitzvah weekend. Our main character Ezra comes home from working at sleep away camp to a chaotic weekend of family fun, celebrating his younger brother’s bar mitzvah, while coming to terms with his own definition of what it means to be a man.
Noah Singer
Noah's play, Our Schtick, offers a nostalgic glimpse into Montreal's Jewish community in the Mile-End as seen through the eyes of its most infamous members: the notorious gangsters of the early 20th century. Exploring themes like home, family, community alienation, and antisemitism; it shines a light on a little known topic that has been largely forgotten. Noah will be sharing a few selected scenes with the help of his fellow cohort members, as well as talking about his research and creation process. He welcomes questions from anyone in attendance.
Ilana Zackon
Ilana Zackon will take you behind the scenes on the one-person play she's developing about her real-life grandmother, Goldie Hershon. Growing up, Ilana knew her Bubby was important, but not to what extent. Later in life, she was shocked to discover her grandmother hid documents in her clothing to sneak Soviet Jews out of Russia, was the past president of Canadian Jewish Congress, and an invited guest to Yitzhak Rabin's funeral – and that's just the tip of the iceberg. Unfortunately, her Bubby developed early onset Alzheimer's and Ilana would never be able to ask her about any of it. As she uncovers the life of her grandmother, through digging into archives and conducting interviews, Ilana begins to understand more about her Bubby, but also about herself. A story about memory, intergenerational experience, and fighting for what you believe in.
