Sometimes what an emerging artist needs most is an hour with someone who can help them work through a question, tackle a challenge, or figure out what comes next.
Office Hours with Trevor Barrette offers emerging theatre artists one-on-one access to an experienced Montreal theatre maker for personalized artistic and professional support. Whether you’re preparing for an audition, developing a new piece, stepping into a new role, or looking for guidance as you build your career, these sessions are designed to meet you where you are.
This six-week trial is offered through the Segal Centre’s Stage Forward Fund in collaboration with Aion Theatre, with 18 individual one-hour sessions available.
Who is it for?
Office Hours are intended for emerging theatre artists, including:
- Artists who have graduated from a theatre training program within the last three years
- Early-career artists looking for guidance or support
- Theatre artists interested in pivoting from one discipline to another
You do not need to arrive with a finished project or a perfectly formed question. Come with something you want to work on, explore, or talk through.
What can I use my session for?
Each session is tailored to the needs of the individual artist. Topics can include:
Acting Coaching
Prepare for an upcoming audition or rehearsal, work through a monologue or scene, or explore new material.
Dramaturgy & New Work
Get early feedback on a new play or project, brainstorm ideas, explore structure, or dig into character and world-building.
Directing & Stage Management
Talk through the artistic, logistical, or leadership questions that come with beginning a career as a director or stage manager.
Professional Development
Discuss career goals, navigating the Montreal theatre community, networking, building professional relationships, or figuring out your next steps.
Grant Writing & Applications
Get support developing a grant application, articulating your project and artistic goals, reviewing a draft, or figuring out how to approach an application for the first time.

Location
Sessions can take place in person at the Segal Centre for Performing Arts or virtually.
In-person sessions will take place in one of the Segal Centre’s meeting or rehearsal spaces.
Cost
No cost to the artist! This program is subsidized by the Segal Centre’s Stage Forward Fund to help make individualized professional and artistic support more accessible to emerging theatre artists.
Important Information
Artists can access up to 1 hour of individualized support over between September 21 and October 26, 2026.
About Trevor:
Trevor Barrette (he/him) is a theatremaker, director, stage manager, and META-nominated writer, composer, and producer based in Montreal (Tio’tia:ke/Mooniyang). His joy-forward, metatheatrical, and kaleidoscopic projects aim to inspire creativity and a sense of wonder in his audiences.
He has produced and directed The Rules of Playing Risk and Bed and Breakfast, presented at Hudson Village Theatre; Max and Aaron Write a Musical, presented by the Segal Centre for Performing Arts; and the Fringe hits Captain Aurora, Captain Aurora: A New Dawn, and Memento Mori. He has directed The Sages of Chelm and the Yiddish-language premiere of The Great Divide for the Dora Wasserman Yiddish Theatre, as well as The Best Brothers, Born on a Raft Theatre’s inaugural production. He has worked as an assistant director for the Stratford Festival, the Segal Centre, and Talisman Theatre.
He has composed five musicals, all of which have received public presentations. He has stage managed for the Segal Centre, Centaur Theatre, Hudson Village Theatre, Porte Parole, Infinithéâtre, Youtheatre, and Mirvish Productions, among others. He has performed with the National Arts Centre, Segal Centre, Centaur Theatre, Geordie Theatre, Repercussion Theatre, Persephone Productions, and Scapegoat Carnivale, among others.
Dedicated to fostering local talent, he teaches regularly at the Segal Centre Academy and Geordie Theatre School. He has served as President of the Montreal English Theatre Awards and Vice-President of the Quebec Drama Federation and currently serves on the Board of Directors of Playwrights’ Workshop Montréal.
