Broadway Cafe: Legends

May 13, 2023 - May 13, 2023 | Studio | 8 p.m.

In honour of the Segal’s upcoming production of Josephine: A Musical Cabaret that follows the life of the truly iconic Josephine Baker, this edition of Broadway Café invites you to live your legend fantasy with hosts Marc Ducusin and Jeanne Motulsky. Bring your best Liza, Judy, Ella, Patty, Bernadette, Jennifer (ok, we realized midway through this sentence that there were a few iconic Jennifers out there so just pick one), not to mention Mandy, Norbert, or Tommy Tune, and let your inner diva shine!

Marc Ducusin
Marc Ducusin is delighted to co-host Broadway Café with his good friend and fellow performer Jeanne, after appearing together in shows for the Côte-Saint-Luc Dramatic Society and Full Circle Productions. Marc has also performed for In the Wings Promotions, the McGill Savoy Society, Kaleidoscope Theatre, and many other companies at venues including the Segal Centre, Centaur, Mainline, and Rialto. Outside Montreal, he has performed at Ottawa's Arts Court, Toronto's Buddies in Bad Times Theatre, and New York's 54 Below. He is represented by Bellini International.

Jeanne Motulsky
Jeanne is thrilled to be part of this edition of Broadway Café and host with the wonderful Marc Ducusin! She has been performing on various stages since 2015 including as Sally Bowles in Cabaret (CSLDS), Penny Lou Pingleton in Hairspray (CSLDS), the Narrator in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (CSLDS), and more recently in the latest Dora Wasserman Yiddish Theatre production of The Sages of Chelm as Shosane. Jeanne also had the honour of performing at the iconic 54 Below in New York City this past August!

HOW IT WORKS:

  • VIRTUAL SIGN UP: you must sign-up to sing at the link above before 4 p.m. the day of the event.
  • The order of performances will be drawn at random live the night of the event. We’ll do our best to get to as many singers as possible, you can help us by picking a song that is under 3 – 4 minutes.
  • When the hosts call your name, you will have a chance to consult with the pianist before singing. All our pianists are experts at sight-reading and will be able to accompany you and make you feel comfortable.
  • Our “one song rule” remains in effect. We will let everyone sing once before anyone can sing a second time. Solos, duets, trios, group songs all count as your one song, so choose wisely.
  • A list of our song books does not exist unfortunately. If you have a specific song you’d like to sing we’d recommend bringing your own sheet music to be sure.
  • The only exception to this rule is preview numbers of upcoming musicals. These must be booked in advance and will not count towards your “one song”. We will even promote your production on our Broadway Café Facebook page. For more info or to reserve a preview spot, message us on social media or send an email to mthompson@segalcentre.org
  • The themes are just for fun! Use the prompt as inspo or sing whatever your heart desires.
  • You can upload a pdf of your sheet music on the sign-up sheet or bring your sheet music on double sided and three-hole punched paper.
  • Seating is general admission. This is not a show so you can feel free to get up and move around as needed. The bar will be open throughout and concessions are allowed in the theatre.
  • Broadway Café is a warm, supportive, and welcoming environment open to singers of all skill levels. We will cheer you on and be your back-up singers no matter what!
  • Amongst its many perks, Class Act offers members -50% off on tickets to Broadway Café as well as a -10% at the bar. Find out more about this amazing subscription package for students and under 30.
  • This event is 16+ only
