Broadway Café is the Segal Centre’s beloved Broadway karaoke night with live piano accompaniment!

Bonjour, Girlfriend! You don’t have to “Drive All Night” for the best Broadway karaoke night in Montréal. It’s here, at the Segal Centre, co-hosted by queens Augusta Wind and Kitty Catcher. In honour of our upcoming production of Titanique, we’re asking: “what do you say to taking chances” and coming on stage to sing your favourite showtunes in your best Céline drag? “Near, far, wherever you are,” we hope to see you there!

SIGN UP TO SING HERE: https://forms.gle/442GyAqhdzG8Qs8d8

HOW IT WORKS:

  • VIRTUAL SIGN-UP: you must sign up to sing at the link above before 4 p.m. the day of the event.
  • The order of performances will be drawn at random live the night of the event. We’ll do our best to get to as many singers as possible, you can help us by picking a song that is under 3 – 4 minutes.
  • When the hosts call your name, you will have a chance to consult with the pianist before singing. All our pianists are experts at sight-reading and will be able to accompany you and make you feel comfortable.
  • Our “one song rule” remains in effect. We will let everyone sing once before anyone can sing a second time. Solos, duets, trios, and group songs all count as your one song, so choose wisely.
  • The only exception to this rule is preview numbers of upcoming musicals. These must be booked in advance and will not count towards your “one song”. We will even promote your production on our Broadway Café Facebook page. Previews are reserved for community and independent theatre groups and limited to one (1) preview per production. For more info or to reserve a preview spot, message us on social media or send an email to mthompson@segalcentre.org
  • The themes are just for fun! Use the prompt as inspo or sing whatever your heart desires.
  • Please bring your sheet music on double-sided and three-hole punched paper.
  • If you’d like to bring an instrument, message us on social media or send an email to mthompson@segalcentre.org. Instruments must be easy to set up and cannot be plugged in or mic’d.
  • Click here for a list of the songbooks available onsite. If you have a specific song you’d like to sing we’d recommend bringing your own sheet music to be sure.
  • Seating is general admission. This is not a show so you can feel free to get up and move around as needed. The bar will be open throughout and concessions are allowed in the theatre.
  • Broadway Café is a warm, supportive, and welcoming environment open to singers of all skill levels. We will cheer you on and be your backup singers no matter what!o Amongst its many perks, Class Act offers members -50% off on tickets to Broadway Café as well as a -10% at the bar. Find out more about this amazing subscription package for students and under 30.

On her nights away from the theatre, you can catch Augusta Wind, who is currently in her reign as the winner of Drag Moi, performing every second Friday at Champs Bar. Augusta is so excited to be hosting her third Broadway Café! Keep an eye out for this sickening queen. Something wicked this way blows… @the_Augusta_Wind on Insta!

Kitty Catcher

Kitty Catcher

Host

From Marseille to Montreal, from bars to cabarets to theatres, Kitty Catcher has come a long way. One can call them international, one can call them a Montreal leech: they suck the marrow out of places only the orange line can reach.

Dramatic résumé with production on production on production? They have none of those. With Glee as their main introduction to musicals, they clawed their way into theatricality, piecing together their own style : brilliant, silly, always growing, and with a touch of lyric-forgetfulness.

They’ve been singing, in drag, for almost 3 years now, and are nothing short of a firecracker (or a tear-jerker, depending on the moon cycles). Having performed in many cities across France, they actually started in a karaoke - so the Broadway Café is an across-the-pond full circle. Last April, they finally found this hole in the wall, where the backing track is live piano, and the selling point isn’t the word « cringe » - thus they came back for more.

Releasing their inner, repressed theatre kid, they’re ready to break through their impostor syndrome, serve jokes, looks, fun facts and ask the audience: WHO’S ON DECK !?!?
