Kolot/Voices: Periphery screening with No Silence on Race

Nov 27, 2022 - Nov 27, 2022 | Cinema

The Segal Centre is thrilled to share KOLOT | VOICES, a showcase that shines light on diverse Jewish voices from Canada and beyond. Through a series of interactive offerings with leading creators working in different mediums, KOLOT looks to spotlight artistic voices whose stories and work looks beyond the white and/or Ashkenazi Jewish experience.

Join us on Sunday, Nov. 27th at 2 p.m., as we kick off our inaugural offering with No Silence On Race presenting their evocative documentary, Periphery, a short film about ethnic diversity in the Canadian Jewish community. The screening will be followed with a panel discussion with TO-based Akilah Allen-Silverstein, Asha Allen-Silverstein, and local artist, J-Rob.

"While we come from different cultural backgrounds, our shared stories and experiences of Black and Jewish in Canada were the ties that bound our connection"
- The Creative Team, "No Silence on Race".

Periphery is an evocative photographic and film project that bears witness to ethnic diversity in the Jewish community. Sharing narratives from individuals of multiracial and multiethnic backgrounds, Periphery creates space to look, listen, and learn from participants as they share their experiences and explore ideas of representation, intersectionality, ethnicity, race, and sexuality. Periphery also draws our attention inwards and invites us to examine how we foster and support a broader and richer view of the Jewish community.
