Broadway Café: Movie Musical Madness Edition

May 11, 2024 - May 11, 2024 | Studio | 8 p.m.

Broadway Café is the Segal Centre’s beloved Broadway karaoke night with live piano accompaniment!

Let’s go to the movies with this new edition of Broadway Café hosted by New Yorkahs Casey Marie Ecker and Joseph Salvatore Vitale! You’re encouraged to sing a song from a movie musical, or a musical inspired by a movie (are there no new ideas?!). Or simply sit back, pop some popcorn in your mouth and enjoy the show!

SIGN UP TO SING HERE: https://forms.gle/bv63KnzYTjCiRsWz5

HOW IT WORKS:

    • VIRTUAL SIGN-UP: you must sign up to sing at the link above before 4 p.m. the day of the event.
    • The order of performances will be drawn at random live the night of the event. We’ll do our best to get to as many singers as possible, you can help us by picking a song that is under 3 – 4 minutes.
    • When the hosts call your name, you will have a chance to consult with the pianist before singing. All our pianists are experts at sight-reading and will be able to accompany you and make you feel comfortable.
    • Our “one song rule” remains in effect. We will let everyone sing once before anyone can sing a second time. Solos, duets, trios, and group songs all count as your one song, so choose wisely.
    • The only exception to this rule is preview numbers of upcoming musicals. These must be booked in advance and will not count towards your “one song”. We will even promote your production on our Broadway Café Facebook page. For more info or to reserve a preview spot, message us on social media or send an email to mthompson@segalcentre.org
    • The themes are just for fun! Use the prompt as inspo or sing whatever your heart desires.
    • Click here for a list of the songbooks available onsite. If you have a specific song you’d like to sing we’d recommend bringing your own sheet music to be sure.
    • Please bring your sheet music on double-sided and three-hole punched paper.
    • Seating is general admission. This is not a show so you can feel free to get up and move around as needed. The bar will be open throughout and concessions are allowed in the theatre.
    • Broadway Café is a warm, supportive, and welcoming environment open to singers of all skill levels. We will cheer you on and be your backup singers no matter what!
    • Amongst its many perks, Class Act offers members -50% off on tickets to Broadway Café as well as a -10% at the bar. Find out more about this amazing subscription package for students and under 30.
    • This event is recommended for 16+

MEET YOUR HOSTS

Casey Marie Ecker's headshot

Casey Marie Ecker

Casey Marie Ecker (she/her) is a queer multidisciplinary artist with many feathers in various caps. Born in Manhattan, New York, her love of the arts was generational. Her mother, a classically trained singer and artist, had Casey in ballet classes at four years old. She inevitably fell in love with musicals after witnessing theatre legend Patti Lupone in the 2008 revival of Gypsy! Although she was accepted into Fiorello H. LaGuardia for Visual Arts, her love of performing never wavered. This love led her to audition and get accepted at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy NY, where she finally began her acting journey.

Since immigrating to Tiohtià:ke (Montreal), Casey has acted in Montreal, Toronto, and the New York Fringe Festival! She has also starred in national commercials for Petco, Pacific Foods, and Coffee Mate! However, you might know her best for her roles as Mary Lane in Reefer Madness (Contact Theatre) and Columbia in The Rocky Horror Show (Mainline Theatre)!
In May, she is starring in Grease (WISTA) as Rydell’s residential beauty school dropout, Frenchy! Where can you find her? Besides working behind the scenes as Segal’s social media manager and teaching drama with Geordie Theatre? She is setting her cap at directing during this year’s Fringe Festival!
Casey is thrilled to be hosting this edition of Broadway Café! It combines her love of film, musical theatre, and (of course) her pal Joey!
