Alyssa Mirarchi
Alyssa Mirarchi is a theatre student born and based in Montreal. She is currently studying in the Professional Theatre program at John Abbott College and has had a passion for music and live theatre from a very young age. While she was a part of the Segal Centre Academy for four years and has been training vocally since the age of 9, she has had the pleasure of taking performance-based courses at a variety of different studios and training facilities including Stagedoor Manor (NY) and Chromamusika (MTL). She has been a part of many shows including Godspell (Ensemble), Disaster! (Jackie), Groundhog Day (Larry), Hello Dolly! (Irene), and Mamma Mia! (Sophie). Alyssa has recently begun developing herself a platform on streaming services such as Spotify and Apple Music and released her first single, “Tropes”, in February of 2022. She is beyond excited to have the opportunity to have a blast hosting Broadway Café with her good friend, Cat Preston, and cannot wait to hear what songs people have in store.

Cat Preston
Cat Preston is a Montreal based arts advocate, administrator, and actor from Northallerton, England.

A graduate of both John Abbott College's Theatre Workshop program ('16) as well as Concordia University's Acting for the Theatre BFA ('19), they have had a long standing love for musical theatre, puppetry, and collective creation. Past credits include Fantine (Les Miserables), Audrey (Little Shop of Horrors), Gorilla/Kit Kat Dancer (Cabaret), Pink (Attempts in Flight) and, most recently, Rosie (Mamma Mia!). She has, in recent years, expanded her work beyond Quebec, working with companies such as Bread and Puppet Theatre in Glover, Vermont.

While pursuing graduate studies in Communications, they served on QDF’s communications committee until November 2020 where they transitioned into the position of Communications Coordinator and now hold the position of Communications Manager. Her work at QDF allows her to focus on her passion for community, promotion, and development for the Quebec English Theatre community. Cat has had the opportunity to pursue administrative, communications, and marketing work not only with QDF, but with companies such as The St-Ambroise Montreal Fringe Festival, MainLine Theatre, Watermark Theatre, Half Twin Theatre, Raīdo Productions, and more.

Cat is thrilled to dance, jive, and have the time of their life with rising talent and friend Alyssa Mirarchi and the Broadway Café family.

HOW IT WORKS:

  • VIRTUAL SIGN UP: you must sign-up to sing at the link above before 4 p.m. the day of the event.
  • The order of performances will be drawn at random live the night of the event. We’ll do our best to get to as many singers as possible, you can help us by picking a song that is under 3 – 4 minutes.
  • When the hosts call your name, you will have a chance to consult with the pianist before singing. All our pianists are experts at sight-reading and will be able to accompany you and make you feel comfortable.
  • Our “one song rule” remains in effect. We will let everyone sing once before anyone can sing a second time. Solos, duets, trios, group songs all count as your one song, so choose wisely.
  • A list of our song books does not exist unfortunately. If you have a specific song you’d like to sing we’d recommend bringing your own sheet music to be sure.
  • The only exception to this rule is preview numbers of upcoming musicals. These must be booked in advance and will not count towards your “one song”. We will even promote your production on our Broadway Café Facebook page. For more info or to reserve a preview spot, message us on social media or send an email to mthompson@segalcentre.org
  • The themes are just for fun! Use the prompt as inspo or sing whatever your heart desires.
  • You can upload a pdf of your sheet music on the sign-up sheet or bring your sheet music on double sided and three-hole punched paper.
  • Seating is general admission. This is not a show so you can feel free to get up and move around as needed. The bar will be open throughout and concessions are allowed in the theatre.
  • Broadway Café is a warm, supportive, and welcoming environment open to singers of all skill levels. We will cheer you on and be your back-up singers no matter what!
  • Amongst its many perks, Class Act offers members -50% off on tickets to Broadway Café as well as a -10% at the bar. Find out more about this amazing subscription package for students and under 30.
  • This event is 16+ only
