What is Power Jazz?

Chet Doxas quartet: "Straight ahead Jazz at its best", featuring saxophonist Chet Doxas.

The Chet Doxas Quartet blends elements of jazz, indie-rock, and contemporary classical music to create a dynamic and interactive musical experience. Their debut CD, entitled Sidewalk Etiquette and released on Justin Time Records, was given a 4-star review by Downbeat Magazine, which heralded Chet's compositions as "tough, melancholy music, smart and immensely appealing, pitched perfectly by Doxas's quartet." The quartet has recorded for CBC numerous times, opened for Wayne Shorter at the Montreal International Jazz Festival in 2006, and hosted their own indoor concert at the festival the following year, a performance that garnered the Montreal Gazette head-line: "Chet Doxas is a master tenor saxophonist ahead of his time" This past summer, the quartet was also honored by being one of five international groups under the age of thirty to appear at the prestigious North Sea Jazz Festival in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
