For 2009-2010 the Segal Centre proudly welcomes "Routes--Montreal" - CBC Radio's well-known music series that promotes local and national songwriting talent. Come experience the stars of tomorrow today in the intimate and inspiring acoustical environment of the Studio. The four part concert series is recorded live and is then heard across the country on CBC's program "Canada Live."
Over the years, Routes--Montreal has showcased roots, world, jazz and pop-based songwriters and musicians. Hundreds of performers have played the Routes stage and thousands of CBC listeners have attended these tapings. You never know who will turn up - but you'll always have a great time being part of the Routes experience.
Elephant Stone are calling themselves “Hindie Rock”, a moniker that sounds pretty accurate to the unbiased ear. They’re the idea-baby of Rishi Dhir, former sitar player of the High Dials and new Elephant Stone sitar player and singer. In May 2009 they released their first album, The Seven Seas. Sounding like one part ethereal Can-indie, one part The-Beatles’-George-Harrison-written songs, and one part mystical cosmic dust, their music alone pretty much guarantees a trippy-yet-totally-laid-back-dude experience. In 2009 Elephant Stone was nominated for the Polaris Music Prize. This concert introudces brand new material from their upcoming CD to be released in late spring 2010. In this unique performance the band teams up with renown tabla player and percussionist Shawn Mativetsky and violinist Monica Guenter for an Asian fused musical mashup.
