STALAGS: HOLOCAUST AND PORNOGRAPHY IN ISRAEL ( 2007, Israel, 62mins ) directed by Ari Libsker.  Most people recognize the word Stalag as a term for Nazi prison camps. But the term also refers to the real-life phenomenon of a pornographic fiction genre popular in Israel during the 1960’s that portrayed sado-masochistic female SS officers abusing prisoners. The appearance of these cheap novels, sold by the hundreds of thousands, coincided with the Eichmann trial. Whether they provided a titillating read for some or a kind of samizdat for the children of Holocaust survivors, the director sheds light on the shadowy figures who wrote the books and formed an obscure part of the cultural representation of the Holocaust.
