Photo: Annie ZielinskyLe Chien, la nuit et le couteau, the company's most recent production, is a bewitching experience which immerses the audience into the heart of absurdity, action packed audacity, and excess. The performers create a vivacious, unique playground, a continuously changing space, in which they invite the audience to follow them on an uncommon journey.
German writer Marius von Mayenburg's Le Chien, la nuit et le couteau is an apocalyptic plunge into a bleak dystopia. With no water or food, humans are forced to yield to animal instinct where survival thrives on destruction. In this Kafkaesque universe, M is in search of his way towards dawn. Unable to distinguish sleep from waking life, his path follows the logic of dreams. Space and time seem to expand, shrink and escape altogether, and yet, all the while, everything still feels strangely familiar. Unable to awake, M must find a way to stay within the surreal waking dream he has found himself in, and most of all, how to stay alive. M is forced to confront moral challenges in the midst of chaos. Kill? Get hold of the knife? Or... get rid of it and dare to give into trust? Definitively modern, Mayenburg’s text evokes our present reality.
