The University of Montreal Big Band performs to benefit the Faculty of Music at The University of Montreal.
The Université de Montréal Big Band is made up of some twenty musicians who passionately and energetically explore a repertoire of jazz classics by the great composers and arrangers, as well as Latin music, fusion, and contemporary jazz. The many Gold distinctions and the Couleur Jazz Prize awarded to the ensemble at the JazzFest des Jeunes du Québec, as well as its participation in the International Association for Jazz Education’s annual conference in 2008, brilliantly bear witness to the talent of these young musicians and their leader, renowned trumpet player Ron Di Lauro.
Over the last few years, the Big Band has been joined in concert by pianists Oliver Jones and Lorraine Desmarais, composers Michel Legrand and Maria Schneider, saxophonist Rémi Bolduc, trumpet player Ingrid Jensen, bass player Alain Caron and artists Gregory Charles, Carol Welsman and Ginette Reno.
