THE DANSE DANSE SERIES and The Segal Centre for Performing Arts are partnering again this season to present a Choreographer-in-Residence program at The Segal Centre. Each residency includes a public presentation of an artist's new work-in-progress, followed by a talkback with the audience. The program's mission is to support the development of contemporary dance while bringing the public into the artistic process.

Roger Sinha (Sinha Danse) and Kiya Tabassian (Ensemble Constantinople) merge their immense talents in a highly original encounter between dance and the music of the Middle East. With four musicians and four dancers, the piece explores the theme of migratory movements and the mixing of cultures. Fusing bharata natyam, martial arts and contemporary dance in a narrative framework that pays tribute to traditional Indian dance, Roger Sinha's work explores the idea of the immigrant as "the other"or the rootless. For this project, it was only natural that he join forces with the Montreal-based Iranian musician Kiya Tabassian, a specialist in the ancient music of the Mediterranean, to evoke the challenges of the collision of East and West.
