IL TROVATORE by Verdi; libretto by Salvatore Cammarano, after Antonio Garcia Gutierrez (El trovador)

Burning passions.
Count di Luna burns with desire for the beautiful Leonora… but she is in love with a travelling singer named Manrico. The conflict between the two men will end in death, under the watchful eye of Azucena, a witch with a thirst for vengeance… In the medieval world of legend, a troubadour, a witch, gypsies, and armoured noblemen clash in the shadow of ominous towers. The second work in Verdi’s popular trilogy, Il trovatore strings together frenzied duets and thrilling choruses—fiery melodies sung by incandescent voices!

Verdi, the librettist… the work.
Guests : Richard Turp (spécialiste opéra); Matteo Soranzo, McGill University
