Richard III

Groundbreaking new company Metachroma Theatre presents a fresh take on a classic tale

By William Shakespeare
Directed by Joel Miller
A Metachroma Theatre Production

In the Segal Studio from September 19th – 30th , 2012

Featuring one of world literature's most insidious and manipulative characters, Richard III is a powerful piece, as horrifying as it is fascinating. William Shakespeare's classic and timeless tragedy journeys through the psyche of one man who will stop at nothing to serve his ambition. Defined by appearance and demonized by society, Richard is ever the outsider. In a whirlwind of horrible deeds and unspeakable acts, Richard fights to claim his position as monarch at all costs.

Metachroma Theatre addresses the under-representation of visible minority actors in Canadian Theatre, challenging current perceptions by telling stories with a diverse cast in order to normalize the presence of these artists on stage.

Starring: Quincy Armorer, Glenda Braganza, Tamara Brown, Lucinda Davis, Julie Tamiko Manning, Mike Payette, Jamie Robinson and Warona Setshwaelo.

The Lerner and Moguilevsky Duo (Argentina)

Presented by the Montreal Jewish Music Festival

Tuesday August 28, 2012 – 8pm

Born of Russian and Polish grandparents who immigrated to Argentina at the turn of the century, the dynamic duo of Cesar Lerner (piano, accordion, percussion) and Marcelo Moguilevsky (clarinet, sax, wooden flutes, harmonica) has developed their own improvisational musical language, combining elements of the Klezmer and Yiddish music traditions with Argentinian folk music, jazz, tango and other world music influences. After two decades of performing together, their practically telepathic musical connection is evident in every note and gesture, resulting in exceptionally dynamic and exciting live performances. The Lerner and Moguilevsky Duo has performed all over the world and released a number of acclaimed CD recordings.

This week: the Soulpepper experience in Toronto

"Our friends at Soulpepper are knocking it out of the park this summer. In the month of August, you can see four productions at the Young Centre: Neil Simon's Sunshine Boys starring Eric Peterson and Kenneth Welsh, Speed-the-Plow by David Mamet, The Royal Comedians by Mikhaïl Boulgakov and artistic director Albert Schultz directs The Crucible by Arthur Miller. While visiting Soulpepper, head two doors down into the Distillery District and ask for a shot of Mayan Hot Chocolate at SOMA. Two of the great Toronto experiences." – Paul Flicker
